What is Air Conditioning?

 Air Conditioning Systems

In the indoor spaces, air may not be in an expected comfortable level for people at every time. To achieve personal comfortable levels three main properties of air should be maintained.

1.Certain temperature
2.Relative humidity
3.Air purity

  • What is Certain temperature
When outside temperature is rising, temperature of indoor systems should be maintained to get some relief from heat. The normal human body temperature is 36/37 degree Celsius. Then in tropical regions, around 24 degree should be maintained.(This may be vary with requirements and climate of region). But according to the US Department of Energy, as a general rule the best temperature of air conditioning system is 25 'C(or 78 'F).

Anyway, if you worry about your energy cost you can change this. By increasing your A/C temperature from 18 'C to 27'C you can save around $ 76 per year. If you feel it is not an effective value, remember that power consumption of air conditioning systems isn't just depend on temperature.

  • What is Relative Humidity
Before understanding about relative humidity, you should have an idea about humidity. Humidity is the water vapor percentage of air. When the high vapor quantity in air, humidity will be high.

Relative humidity is ratio between moisture content in air(as percent) and moisture content of air is saturated.

Relative Humidity (R.H.) = Partial moisture content of air / Saturated moisture content of air x 100

Relative Humidity is not depending on your home's temperature. It will always stay between 45% and 55%.If it is higher than 55% some issues may be occurs such as mold growth.

What is air conditioning

Maintaining Certain temperature, Relative humidity and air purity of indoor unit is called as air conditioning.

By next article let's discuss about what are the main components of A/C systems and how they contribute to air conditioning process.
